Pennsylvania was among the pioneering states to implement a legal online lottery, following the passage of a gambling expansion law in 2017. Currently, players can enjoy PA Lottery’s instant games online, winning real cash prizes through their computers or mobile devices.

Players can conveniently buy the following Draw Games online: Mega Millions®, Powerball®, Treasure Hunt, and Cash4Life®. Additionally, the Pennsylvania Lottery has developed apps for both iOS and Android platforms. Online participants in the PA Lottery must be aged 18 or older and located within the commonwealth's limits to place bets or make purchases.

The aim of the online instant games is to uncover winning numbers, letters, or symbols on the screen to claim a prize. The price range for these games varies between $0.05 and $30, and they are available for play 24/7.

At the time of writing, the Pennsylvania Lottery boasts 107 online games open for players to enjoy, including:

  • Gifts Galore
  • Polar Bear Bucks
  • Winning Tree
  • Marching Through the Snow
  • Extreme Green
  • Jungle Tumble Jackpots
  • Pennsylvania Keystone Cash
  • Lightning Bucks
  • 5X, 10X, 20X, 50X Blowout

WHERE DOES ONLINE LOTTERY MONEY GO?

The Pennsylvania Lottery uniquely ensures that all earnings are directed toward programs that enhance the lives of senior citizens. Since its ticket sales commenced in 1972, it has allocated over $32.6 billion towards initiatives such as property tax and rent relief, transportation, healthcare services, prescription aid, and local services like senior centers and meals. During the Fiscal Year 2020-21, funds distributed for the benefit of older Pennsylvanians exceeded $1 billion for the tenth year in a row.

MULTI-STATE DRAW GAMES

MEGA MILLIONS ONLINE

Mega Millions® is accessible to lottery players in 45 states, including Pennsylvania. To participate in Mega Millions®, players must select six numbers from two distinct sets. The first set requires choosing five numbers from 1 to 70 (white balls), and the second set has one number from 1 to 25 (Gold Mega Ball). Players have the option to pick their own numbers or utilize the quick pick for a randomly generated ticket. Since January 2020, lottery enthusiasts in Pennsylvania have had the ability to purchase Mega Millions® tickets online.

What sets Mega Millions® apart is that its jackpot begins at an impressive $40 million and continues to grow until a winner emerges. Purchasing a Mega Millions® ticket costs $2, with an option to add the Megaplier®, raising the ticket price to $3. This multiplier increases all prizes below the jackpot by a factor of two, three, four, or five.

The largest Mega Millions® jackpot ever won in Pennsylvania occurred in July 2021, valued at $516 million annuity. The prize was claimed by a trust formed by a group of individuals who opted to take a lump-sum payment. After taxes, the group walked away with over $250 million, marking the third time a jackpot has been won in the state since it joined the game in 2010.

POWERBALL ONLINE

Powerball® was also integrated into the online offerings of the Pennsylvania Lottery in January 2020. Each ticket for Powerball costs $2, and players can select the Power Play® option for just $1 more. This feature provides the opportunity to multiply non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four, five, or even ten times.

To enter, participants choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball® number from 1 to 26. They then select which drawing they want to enter and can sit back and await the drawing results.

As of August 23, 2021, Powerball announced Monday drawings, giving players the option to play on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays. This change introduced the Double Play option, making the PA Lottery the only state that offers Powerball with a Double Play feature available online.

Double Play is a new optional feature that adds an extra $1 fee per game, giving players a secondary opportunity to win cash prizes with their Powerball® numbers in an additional drawing, where the top prize can reach up to $10 million.

The highest Powerball® jackpot recorded in Pennsylvania was in March 2018, amounting to $456.7 million in annuity value, claimed by a single ticket sold in Lancaster County.
